Do Not Let Emotion Cost You Your Dream Home

One of the things people miss most of the time when entering a real estate transaction is that this is not a place where logic and reason alone get you to the outcome you want. Especially when it is a residential transaction, where you are either going to live in the home or sell the home you have lived in. Emotion creeps in, often when you are not looking, and it gets in the way of acting in alignment with what you actually want.

This is the part most buyers and sellers underestimate.

So here is the advice I give every client before they walk into a deal. Make an agreement with yourself ahead of time that if you start to feel emotional in any way, you will not respond. Not to the attorney. Not to the agent. Not to the other side. You will take a deep breath, think through the ultimate outcome you are working toward, and let yourself get back into alignment with that.

We all have that little man inside. He shows up when the other side makes a move you did not expect. He tells you the other party is trying to take advantage of you. He tells you the response was not fair. He tells you to react fast, before you lose ground. In a real estate transaction, that little man will just get you in trouble. He might end up sitting between you and your dream home, or between you and the sale you needed to close.

So today, I am asking you to forget about the little man. Do not listen to him. Listen to me.
